Swim and Dive season 2020

Dear Seahorse families,

While we have been waiting, our board and Coach Gloria have been trying to come up with ways to be socially responsible in how we handle day to day operations. While we still cannot say for certain, if we will be able to have a swim team this summer, the following are some things that you can expect to be different for this season.

  • Drop off and pick up only, no parents allowed to sit on the pool deck.
  • Coming to and leaving practice in swimsuits ready to go without using the bathroom to change clothes.
  • Only bringing what you need to practice (e.g. just towels, goggles, shoes, and water bottles—no bags).
  • Shortening practices times to 45 minutes from one hour.
  • Number of swimmers per lane will be limited.
  • Limiting practice “drop ins” to only being at practice during your scheduled time. For example, if you missed your practice, there will be no make-up.
  • No hanging out on the playground before or after your scheduled time during our reserved swim time.
  • Guppies will take on a “mommy/daddy and me” style.
  • Probability of no dual meets (no visiting teams to our pool and no traveling to other pools), which would equate to a more instructional season.
  • Dive practice may have to be moved from Bishop State to another facility with a dive well.

The practice time that you had last year or were expecting this year may not be what we are able to offer. We are doing our best to schedule practices where all family members will be practicing at the same time (not in the same lane though), so that we can limit the number of people/families that are exposed to each other.

Coaches will be coaching from the deck only, meaning coaches will not be in the water.

You may be asked to bring a pool noodle or a kick board, so there will be no shared equipment.

Swimmers that cannot swim the length of the pool unassisted will be asked to switch to a guppy class.

When all is said and done, we are at the mercy of Lake Forest Property Owners’ Association. If they have tighter regulations than we have glossed over for you here, we will have to comply. For those of you that needed more information, I hope that helps. Please understand, we are still dealing in hypotheticals at this point.

Now, I need something from you. As we move forward in planning, we need as accurate count of athletes as we can get. Please register your athletes. There is no financial obligation at this time, so select “pay by check” and we will collect at a later date. By registering your athletes, it allows us to tangibly gauge interest so we can determine the viability of the season and provides us an registration order, in the event that have a wait list for swim. Also, we need more divers before we can proceed with a dive season.

We hope to see you at the pool VERY SOON!!

Go, Seahorses!
